Amino acid biosynthesis in Torulopsis utilis and Neurospora crassa.

چکیده
The present investigation is concerned with the biosynthesis of the commonly occurring open chain amino acids and proline. The methods used were tracer techniques, including isotopic competition. Since similar studies were recently carried out with Escherichiu coli (13),l the results obtained here with Torulopsis utilis and Neurospora crassa are discussed from the point of view of comparative biochemistry.

متن کاملSaccharopine, an Intermediate of the Aminoadipic Acid Pathway of Lysine Biosynthesis. Ii. Studies in Saccharomyces Cereviseae.
Previous studies with wild yeast strains (Torulopsis utilis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae) have provided circumstantial evidence for the involvement of oc-aminoadipic-6-semialdehyde (1, 2) and saccharopine (3) in lysine biosynthesis from or-aminoadipic acid. Evidence drawn from appropriat’e nutrit.ional studies, accumulation of aminoadipic acid metabolites, and enzymatic analysis with a series o...
متن کاملIsoleucine and Valine Metabolism in Escherichia coZi
On the basis of isotopic results obtained with Torulopsis utilis and Neurospora crassa, Strassman et al. (1) and Adelberg (2) have proposed a mechanism for valine biosynthesis in which pyruvate is converted to a-acetolactate. Acetolactate would then undergo a rearrangement to yield the carbon skeleton of valine. Abelson (3) showed that pyruvate, in competition with glucose, gave rise to the car...
متن کاملBiosynthesis of Lysine from a - Ketoadipic Acid and oa - Aminoadipic Acid in Yeast HARRY
Studies of the nutrition of certain lysine requiring mold mutants indicate that L-a-aminoadipic acid (AAA) or a-ketoadipic acid (KAA) are precursors of lysine. For example, Mitchell and Houlahan (1948) found that certain lysine requiring mutants of Neurospora crassa would respond to either lysine or AAA, and Windsor (1951) subsequently demonstrated that f-C'4-a-aminoadipic acid was completely i...
